Teaser Track 5: Unmade

It took a bit longer than I had hoped, but here is the song I teased in the last blog post. I say this often, but I hope it was worth the wait. I literally finished recording the song two days ago so I was working right up to my self-imposed deadline. With it finally finished, this song completes the final tracklist of the current project I'm working on. I plan to announce a name for it soon, but it has already been decided and has hints in each of my released track's cover art. I'm excited to announce it so I (hopefully) won't keep it a secret for much longer.

Unmade, as you probably gathered, is the most recently finished song of this project. It's about how I'm currently feeling about my struggles as someone who puts a lot of stake in my ability to be creative. This writers block I've worked through over the course of this project feels ever-looming, and is still somewhat unresolved even with it's completion. I've worried at length about whether my abilities to make music are waning. So much so, that I feel like I've become comfortable in an artistic crisis.

This song doesn't address any of that crisis. Instead, it acknowledges that I can't stay in it forever while still remaining a songwriter. My writers block is still here, but I can't remain in this home I've made for myself within it if I want to get better as a musician. I hope that comes across.

On to the EP as a whole:

I'm still finalizing the track list. According to my tweets, I've actually been done with all 8/8 tracks for a while. This is true. I just really believed in this song and didn't want to leave it on the cutting room floor so I finished it. This leaves me with a decision to make about How many songs I'd like to include on the final EP. It may be easy to think "if you have 9, just put them all in", but if one song is just lesser than the others quality-wise, I may want to leave it out to keep the project of a higher overall standard. It shouldn't take long to decide, but I also have no mixing/mastering plan laid out as of yet. I'll announce them as I figure it out. I may also release one more demo to keep things lively around here.

Thank you for reading. I realize I had a lot to say, but I also missed my planned release day by about a month and a half. Hopefully I won't be in that situation too often in the future

Until next time,

~ Phantom Groove
