Bio

As long as he could remember, music has been a part of Phantom Groove's life. As he grew up, he was involved in multiple choir groups, a barbershop octet, and a punk band called "The Apollos". This band produced an album titled "Hummingbird Change," which introduced Phantom Groove to songwriting, performance, and recording.

This experience lead to the creation of the persona by which he is known. While no stranger to performing, Phantom prefers the focus on the music that choir provides. By wearing a featureless mask, he draws listeners into his music and story rather than his image.

Phantom's debut album, "Escapism" was heavily influenced by the lyrical style of Hummingbird Change mixed with his own personal blend of pop and R&B. Each song seeks to tell a story of the man behind the persona of Phantom Groove, while showing his growth as both a musician and a person. As it gracefully flows from upbeat songs about love to slower songs about fear and exhaustion, the lyricism becomes increasingly more detailed. This comes to a head in "We'll See (feat. TJ Boyde)," which serves as the climax of the story presented by the album. This song was a collaboration that was co-written and performed by Tyrone Boyde and Phantom Groove. This album was mixed and mastered by the talented Dennis Wands Jr.

The second album, Contrast is an exploration into the more electronic side of Phantom's musical interests. From the vast landscape created by the synths in "The Universe (feat.Joe Hardy)" to the more choppy, sampled style of "Alright," this album details a journey of self improvement and personal progress. This is all capped off by "Next Time," a song about leaving your past self behind and embracing a better future, and the acoustic version of the album's lead single, "Haze." This version, featuring the talented Landon Franks on cajon, acts as a nostalgic look on the journey of the album. One with ups and downs, but best enjoyed as a memory. This album was mixed by Mack Lavin, mastered by Noah Maruyama, and published by Goodest Records.
